  • Overview

    The Woodbourne School provides high quality, non-public education to youth who are placed at the Treatment Facility from all around Maryland State and beyond.  The Woodbourne Center's new Vocational Program is an extension of the Woodbourne School and aims to give our students and youth from the community the real-world, tangible skills they can use to be successful in their future careers and continuing education.  We believe that when youth who are in need are equipped with opportunities to grow educationally that they will have an even greater hope and sense of confidence in their ability to be successful. 

    Students will learn automotive maintenance and repair skills in the new automotive program.  The Automotive Teacher will, in collaboration with the Vocational Program Supervisor, develop the automotive program to provide students the skills they need to succeed in class and in the world beyond.


    • Prepare lesson plans suitable to the environment, age group and class mix on the assigned subject area(s). Assist students individually where necessary.
    • Instruct a rigorous curriculum to prepare residents for successful employment and continuing education upon graduation from the program.
    • Ensure the safe day-to-day operation of all equipment by staff and students by reinforcing protocols and policies to enhance overall safety.
    • Maintain Vocational Center inventory, safe and secure storage of all equipment.
    • Develop and modify the automotive curriculum, as needed and in collaboration with the Vocational Program Supervisor, to meet the needs of the students.
    • Research vocational programming options and available resources to expand vocational opportunities for residents.
    • Provide a variety of opportunities to allow residents to develop work skills through work programs in the community, work study programs though the school, summer classes, community improvement programs, shop projects and other related vocational programs.
    • Participate in quality improvement efforts and activities to monitor performance and achieve program outcomes.
    • Provide crisis intervention within the classroom setting and apply physical or approved de-escalation techniques appropriate to the situation at hand; ask for assistance when warranted through appropriate procedures and keep other academic and clinical treatment staff appraised of inappropriate behaviors.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • ASE certification
    • 5 years industry experience
    • High school diploma, bachelor's degree preferred
