  • Overview

    Assisst in the planning and implementation of a therapeutic recreation program which supports the residential treatment plan by improving the physical, emotional, cognitive and social abilities of the resident.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in the coordination and implementation of resident leisure activities, recreational events and outings.
    • Participate with coworkers as a team on implementation of treatment plans and therapeutic services.
    • Ensure resident safety and collaborate with coworkers to maintain an environment that is positive, respectful, lean and therapeutic.
    • Transport residents as necessary.
    • Assist in the maintenance of required staff training records and resident recreational records.
    • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required by Nexus.  Understand and support the Nexus philosophy and treatment modalities.  Participate in the other committees as requested.
    • Ensure that all activities are conducted in compliance with the Confidentiality act regarding case reviews, determinations, results and/or recommendations and in compliance with all HIPAA regulations.
    • Other projects and responsibilities as needed or assigned.

    Qualifications

      • Remain current on all required training and certifications.
      • Demonstrate clear understanding of the recreation program components and the linkage with specific physical, emotional, cognitive and social issues.
      • Be proficient in the use, instruction and maintenance ce of all athletic and/or recreational equipment and tools.
      • Be aware and strive to gain knowledge of new and/or innovative recreation techniques or methods.
      • Demonstrate sufficient written and verbal communication skills to generate required documentation and reporting that is legible and articulate, and to interface effectively with staff, families and external contacts.
      • Exhibit a spirit of cooperation among coworkers and comply with corporate and site policies and procedures.  Display ethical conduct and professionalism at all times, with particular emphasis on maintaining a healthy relationship and appropriate boundaries with residents and protecting resident confidentiality.
      • Adhere to department procedures regarding punctuality and attendance and exhibit flexibility and cooperation with shift scheduling and rotation needs.
      • Bachelor's degree.  Will accept High School diploma and minimum of 5 years directly related experience in similar setting in lieu of BA/BS degree.
      • Previous experience in the provision of recreational activities with adolescents or vulnerable adults preferred.
      • Valid driver's license.  Must meet licensing agency driving requirements and comply with corporate driving policy.
      • Must be able to assist staff in proper restraining of residents.
      • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up 100+ pounds with assistance.
      • Must be able to twist, end and stretch in a manner conducive to execution of daily activities within a residential program.
      • Must be able to stand and walk for an extended period of time (2-4 hours).
