  • Overview

    Support and reinforce the individual treatment and transition plans of clients in the Onarga Academy Treatment Foster Family Home by providing guidance, assistance and supervision of clients in their daily living activities.


    1. Provide mentorship, role-modeling and assistance to clients in developing daily living skills and activities that will help them obtain a healthy and age-appropriate sense of self.

    2. Assist and support the Treatment Foster Family Parent in establishing and enforcing the guidelines, procedures and house rules which are designed to ensure safety and structure within the home.

    3. Provide assistance in teaching, collaborating with, and supporting the clients’ families in order to achieve their permanency goals. 

    4. Participate with co-workers as a team on implementation of treatment plans and therapeutic services. 

    5. Ensure client safety and collaborate with co-workers to maintain a therapeutic environment that is clean, safe, positive and respectful. 

    6. Participate in required and supplemental training to increase knowledge and skills of currently established standards of practice for the Treatment Foster Family Home program and services provided. 

    7. Perform other responsibilities, tasks, and projects as needed or assigned.


    Education, Credentials and Experience

    • High School diploma or GED required; 2 years of college preferred.
    • Minimum 21 years of age.
    • Must meet Medicaid requirements for an RSA.
    • Valid driver’s license and driving record that satisfies state regulating agency driving requirements as well as Nexus corporate policy parameters and insurance eligibility standards.

    Knowledge, Skills and Personal Attributes

    • Remain current on all required Nexus and DCFS training and certifications.
    • Demonstrate sufficient written and verbal communication skills to effectively present information and facilitate discussions; generate required documentation and reporting that is legible and articulate; interface effectively with staff, families, foster parents, and external contacts.
    • Strive to gain an understanding of basic child and adolescent development principles, in an effort to model and reinforce fundamentals of positive youth development.
    • Comply with corporate and site policies and procedures.
    • Exhibit spirit of cooperation among co-workers; Display ethical conduct and professionalism at all times, with particular emphasis on maintaining a healthy relationship and appropriate boundaries with youth, and protecting youth confidentiality.
    • Demonstrate the ability to handle emergency or crisis situations and use sound judgment by taking appropriate actions. Remain calm and effectively manage stressful workload conditions and difficult emotionally charged or crisis situations.
    • Utilize organizational skills and tools to proactively manage multiple client treatment and program needs.
    • Adhere to department and agency procedures regarding punctuality and attendance and exhibit flexibility and cooperation with work schedules/rotations according to program needs.
    • Continually seek knowledge of, and an understanding of, differences in gender, race, age, culture, ethnicity, class, religion, and disability to eliminate biases toward differing talents, abilities, sexual orientation and faiths.

    Physical Demands

    • Must be able to perform and assist staff in physical interventions and restraints of residents.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
    • Must be able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within the Treatment Foster Family Home.
