  • Overview

    We're looking for people with a genuine ability to listen, offer guidance, encouragement and have a desire to help youth see positive solutions and opportunities.

    Woodbourne Center utilizes a comprehensive, integrated system of care to meet the individual needs of each boy. Providing psychiatric residential treatment for boys, ages 12-18, who have chronic mental health issues. Specialized programming is offered for unhealthy sexual behaviors. Treatment Foster Care services are provided to boys and girls, age birth-21, and families, and is located on a historic site in the center of Baltimore, MD. 


    The Psychiatrist will guide the treatment team and implement the treatment plan for each client for whom the Psychiatrist is the treating.

    Responsible in admissions for determining the applicant’s suitability to benefit from treatment at the Woodbourne Center. Review admissions materials on clients to plan for medication and medical risks. Provide direct psychiatric services (evaluation, consultation, medication management, psychotherapy) to assigned patients and their families. Respond to emergencies in the absence of staff psychiatrists assigned to the case. Per the on-call schedule, provide emergency consultation with Woodbourne Center staff concerning management of emergency situations. Assist nurses with evaluating clients in crisis situations and give orders for restraint or seclusion as needed. Ensure that documentation is made for all clinical examinations, including the psychiatric examination, and progress notes. Complete documentation of all medical and psychiatric services as required by Woodbourne Center policy and regulatory/accreditation standards.

    Participate in staff and supervision meetings, and required Woodbourne Center in-service meetings. Understand and support the Woodbourne Center and Nexus philosophy and mission. Ensure confidentiality of all treatment and services information pertaining to clients and their foster, adoptive, and biological families.

    Perform other job related responsibilities, tasks, and projects as needed.


    Education, Credentials and Experience

    M.D. degree and Board-eligible in Child Psychiatry, Board-certified preferred.

    Must remain current on all required training and certifications.

Adjust easily and be highly flexible in meeting challenging work needs and demands and willingly provides direction and/or assistance to coworkers when needed. Adhere to department procedures regarding punctuality and attendance. Exhibit and promote cooperation and flexibility among members of the team to insure appropriate staffing levels on all shifts. Ensure responsibilities are covered, if applicable, when absent. Demonstrate the ability to handle emergency or crisis situations and use sound judgment by taking appropriate actions consistent with Nexus policy and procedures. Remain calm and effectively manage stressful workload conditions and difficult, emotionally-charged or crisis situations. Exhibit clear, professional, respectful, and effective communication when interfacing with residents, coworkers, families and external contacts and be willing to share knowledge, information and resources appropriately. Responsible for developing and maintaining healthy relationships and appropriate boundaries with residents, families and employees. Exhibit a high degree of ethical conduct, integrity and confidentiality. Interact with and appreciate people from diverse cultural, social and religious backgrounds. Consistently demonstrate the ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs of the program, such as reprioritizing work or adjusting work schedule of team as necessary. Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and the ability to reference and use them.
