    Responsibilities

    The primary responsibility of the Psychologist is to provide psychological services including psychological assessments, diagnoses and therapy leading to treatment planning and successful discharge of residents from the clinical programming. This role is crucial to the success of our organization just as your influence is crucial to the success of our youth. A typical day would include the following therapeutic tasks:

    1. Provide psychological testing and related services.

    • Coordinate, perform and interpret ongoing psychological testing and assessment of residents.
    • Review resident’s history and conduct individual clinical interviews.
    • Assist in the development of Individual Treatment Plans.

    2. Provide individual psychological services.

    • Conduct individual psychotherapy sessions.
    • Assess current level of psychological functioning, e.g., risks of harm, mood or thought disorders, personality disorders. Make referrals as appropriate.
    • Assist in evaluation of “at risk” clients (suicidal, aggressive).
    • Provide diagnostic formulations, treatment interventions and services.

    3. Provide staff training in the area of psychological services.

    • Assist in identification and facilitation of staff training needs.
    • Provide training on psychological matters such as Individual Treatment Plans and clinical intervention.
    • Assist staff members in the interpretation of psychiatric reports.

    4. Provide consultation to staff and treatment teams.

    • Participate in staff meetings, case presentations and conferences.
    • Be available for in-depth staffing for difficult residents.

    Qualifications

    The education and credentials necessary for the Psychologist include:

    • Ph.D. in Psychology or Psy.D. Degree required.
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in adolescent counseling and/or residential care strongly preferred.
    • Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Corporate driving requirements.

     

    The physical demands necessary for the Psychologist include:

    • Must be able to assist staff in physical interventions and restraints of residents.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100+ pounds with assistance.
    • Must be able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within a residential treatment facility.
